Reverend Ferdinand Kittel (1832-1903)

Reverend Ferdinand Kittel was a priest and indologist with the Basel Mission and worked in Mangalore, Madikeri and Dharwad in Karnataka. He is most famous for his studies of the Kannada language. His magnum opus, however, seems to be the first ever Kannada-English dictionary,a 1,700 page book covering about 70,000 words that was written in 1894. His work was also included dialects from Dharwad, Mangalore and Kodagu. Apparently, lexicographers use his methodology even today. He is also credited with having written numerous poems in Kannada.

S SALIM KUMAR   Munshi Paramu Pillai  People called him ‘Bernard Shaw’ of Kerala. He told them ‘I am not Shah, I am a show..’ It was cent percent correct that he was a show, obviously a One Man Show. Alternative of Munshi Paramu Pillai was only Munshi Paramu Pillai and he was as bold as the real ‘Shah’. History of Malayalam drama, cinema and satire cannot be written without mentioning Munshi Paramu Pillai. In the period 1945 to 1965, he was the master writer of Malayalam dramas. Famous drama companies of that period presented his dramas which were mostly blockbusters. ] One of his famous dramas ‘SUPRABHA’was a record holder. The main character of that drama was a villain which was unimaginable at that period. Duration of the play was five and a half hours. Whereever it was staged the audience demanded ‘once more’.  എസ് .സലിംകുമാർ    1 978-1982   കാലത്ത് മദ്രാസിൽ സിനിമാരംഗത്ത് ഞാൻ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. സഹസംവിധായകൻ,പ്രൊഡക്ഷൻ ബോയ്‌, മേക്ക്അപ് സഹായി, തിരക്കഥാകൃത്ത് അങ്ങനെ പല പ്രവൃത്തികൾ. അന്നത്തെ അനുഭവങ്ങൾ അമ്പതോളം അധ്യായങ്ങളുള്ള ഒരു പുസ്തമാക്കുവാനുള്ള നടപടികൾ നടക്കുന്നു. ചില അധ്യായങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ കൊടുക്കുന്നു. 'സിനിമാപ്രേമി' എന്നാണ് പുസ്തകത്തിൻ്റെ പേര്. പ്രശസ്തരും അപ്രശസ്തരുമായ നിരവധി ആളുകളെ ഇതിൽ കാണാം . കോടമ്പാക്കത്ത് ആർക്കോട്ട് റോഡിൽ ശിവൻ കോവിൽ തെരുവിലൂടെ സ്വല്പം മുന്നോട്ടു ചെല്ലുമ്പോൾ ഇടത്തേക്ക് തിരിയുന്ന വഴിയേ പോയാൽ ലീലാനിലയത്തിൽ  എത്താം. ഫിലോമിന, കണ്ണൂർ രാജൻ, കല്ലട വാസുദേവൻ, അസി.ഡയറക്ടർ ശിവരാമൻ, തുടങ്ങിവർ ലീലാനിലയത്തിൽ ആണ്  താമസിക്കുന്നത്. കല്ലട വാസുദേവൻ അന്ന് 'മലയാളനാട് സിനിമാ ദ്വൈവാരിക' യുടെ മദ്രാസ് ലേഖകൻ ആണ്. സംവിധാനം പഠിക്കുവാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അനന്തിരവൻ കലാധരൻ (കല അടൂർ)  അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം താമസിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. അവിടുന്ന് ആധികം ദൂരെയല്ലാതെയാണ് കടുവക്കുളം ആന്റണി താമസിക്കുന്നത്. ശിവൻ കോവിൽ തെരുവിൻ്റെ  ആഴങ്ങളിൽ എവിടെയോ ശ്രീനിവാസൻ താമസിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഏതു നേരത്തെന്നി...

​ എസ്‌. സലിംകുമാർ    സുഗതകുമാരിയുടെ രചനയെ ആസ്പദമാക്കിയുള്ള (ഒരേ) ഒരു ചലച്ചിത്രമാണ്   സി ജെ പൗലോസ് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത 'കാളി' (2002) (ഷോർട്ട് ഫിലിം - ഫീച്ചററ്റ് -  28 മിനിറ്റ് ).  ഫിലിംസ് ഡിവിഷൻ   ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് വേണ്ടി സി ജെ പൗലോസ് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ആ  ലഘുചിത്രത്തിനുവേണ്ടി തിരക്കഥയെഴുതുവാൻ എനിക്ക് അവസരം കിട്ടി. 'ഒരു പരാജയത്തിൻറെ കഥ'  എന്ന പേരിൽ 1994 ൽ മാതൃഭൂമി ആഴ്ചപ്പതിപ്പിൽ സുഗതകുമാരി എഴുതിയ ഒരു അനുഭവക്കുറിപ്പിനെ ആസ്പദമാക്കിയായിരുന്നു ആ ചിത്രം.   ഒരു ദിവസം  സുഹുത്ത്   അശോകൻ വിളിച്ച് പറയുന്നു (എസ്. ടി.ഡി വിളി... മൊബൈൽ ഫോണിന്റെ പൊടി പോലും ഇല്ലാത്ത കാലം) : "നീ ബാംഗ്ലൂരിൽ പോണം. ഫിലിംസ് ഡിവിഷനു വേണ്ടി സുഗതകുമാരിയുടെ ഒരു കഥയ്ക്കു തിരക്കഥ എഴുതണം. വേറൊരാൾ എഴുതിയിട്ട് സംവിധായകന് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടില്ല. നിന്നെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങളൊക്കെ ഗീത സംവിധായകനോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്." ഗീതയെന്നാൽ അശോകൻ അഥവാ അശോക് കുമാർ അഥവാ ജി.അശോക കുമാർ എന്ന് എഴുത്തുകുത്തിൽ പേരുള്ള അവ ൻ്റെ   ..ഭാര്യ  ഗീതയാണ് ഫിലിംസ് ഡിവിഷ ൻ്റെ    തിരുവനന്തപുര...
